2011 Conference Scholarship

Seattle, WA
October 13–26, 2011

PURPOSE

The purpose of the LGBA Scholarship is to assist individual members with travel and registration expenses for the Lesbian and Gay Band Association Annual Conference.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants for the LGBA conference scholarship program must be members in good standing of LGBA Member Bands, Partners, or LGBA Affiliate Members in good standing, at the time of application.

AWARDS

If selected, the recipient will receive an award of up to $250. Up to five (5) awards will be granted as long as there are a sufficient number of qualified applicants and sufficient funds.

Additionally, scholarships for conference registration may also be awarded, based upon the number of donated registrations available.

APPLICATION

Your completed application form and letter of recommendation must be received by August 1, 2011.

OBLIGATIONS

Recipients are required to participate in conference performances and workshops. The scholarship funds may not be used for conference housing, and participants are encouraged to take advantage of LGBA hosted housing. In addition, recipients will be required to write an article for the LGBA newsletter regarding their experience and/or workshops.

SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of participation in band and/or LGBA activities, statement of goals and aspirations, stated need, and letter of recommendation.  The Scholarship Committee will review applications and make recipient recommendations to the LGBA Board of Directors for approval.

NOTIFICATION AND PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS

Applicants will be notified no later than August 15, 2011. Applicants will be required to sign an acceptance letter.  Checks will be mailed upon receipt of that letter. This is a competitive scholarship.  Not all applicants will be selected as recipients. Applicants not receiving an award may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

In the event that circumstances prevent the use of the scholarship by a scholarship recipient, any funds already advanced will be returned.
